State MVP Devine signs with Lady Bucs

Volleyball State MVP and Dobyns-Bennett High School senior Megan Devine has signed with ETSU’S Lady Bucs. On November 17, 2009 at 3pm Devine sat down with D-B Head Coach Kathi Shaffer and ETSU Head Coach Lindsey Devine to sign her contract joining the ETSU women’s volleyball team.

For Devine, this was a huge decision, one that would set the pathway to her future as a college athlete. At the press conference, you could feel the emotion in the room. For Coach Shaffer it was such a bittersweet moment; she could not be happier for Megan. “Megan is the ultimate athlete. Honestly, as much as I would like to have her back due to her amazing talent,  she is beyond ready for the next step. I personally would have to say her talent is unbelievably amazing and just way too good for D-B. The best part to this whole moment is that by winning MVP of state this truly is her storybook ending,” Shaffer stated.

Ultimate athlete indeed, this year Devine won All conference, All District, Player of the year, All Region, MVP State Tournament, and Charter Player of the week. If all these awards do not prove her worthiness to sign with the Lady Bucs, just hear what her mom and new head coach had to say about this moment: “The whole family and I could not be any happier of all  the great work she has done. She has a lot of hard work in front of her with this new team and season!”

Regardless, Devine has such a drive to excel that nothing will stand in her way. We all know she will step up and bring her best game for this new team. The cherry on top for Devine is an exercise science degree program that ETSU offers. This program will help Devine reach her career goal aspiration of becoming a physical therapist.  Devine views this field as a way to continue working with athletes even when she’s no longer on the volleyball court.
