The glorious spread of food on the table at Thanksgiving dinner can only be described with one simple phrase: "Mmmm..." All of the smells coming from the kitchen earlier in the day have your stomach growling like a lion trying to plea, "Feed me!" After an “amen” is said, you chow down. All the wonderful tastes and smells seem heavenly-- that is until the aftermath takes place. You crash. You burn. You feel like you gain five pounds with the addition of all the leftovers! Yet, you still have more to come. Christmas and New Years roll around, which means even more food, and even more sweets. By the time you're ready to get back to school, you find that you can't squeeze into those skinny jeans like you used to do so well. So, need a few pointers for shedding those dreaded, yet totally worth it, pounds? Follow these few simple rules and discipline yourself. You may even find that last year's swimsuit is a bit too big once you put it on in May! 1. Set a calories-per-day limit. Everyone is different, so naturally everyone requires a different amount of calories per day. This also means a different amount of calories per day to lose a few pounds. For example, to lose 1 pound per week to get to a total of 15 pounds less than my beginning weight by April 20th, I would need to eat about 1600 calories a day. I got this information from mynetdiary.com. 2. EXERCISE! Your doctor isn't just saying that word for any reason. They mean it! Exercising, paired with a good diet, really is the most effective way to lose weight. It's simple, too! No heavy lifting or push-ups are required. All you have to do is walk, and run a little if you'd like to, at least 3-5 days out of the week. You could also incorporate workout tools as well, such as dumbbells or ankle weights. 3. Acquire a partner. Find a good friend who would be willing to help you keep track of your diet. You in turn will also keep track of theirs. Partners are usually good motivators, as well, on those days when you really just want a big piece of chocolate mousse cake. After a while of doing this, you should be back to your normal self, if not even a better feeling self. The benefits of exercise are plentiful and just waiting for you to discover them, so go out there and get fit!
