New Moon: Phenomenon or Failure?
Written by Heather Salyers, Reporter
The movie sensation, Twilight Saga: New Moon was released on November 20th.
Tickets have been sold out for months in advance. For the Twilight readers, we were all wondering how the movie was going to turn out compared to the New Moon novel. Freshman, Elizabeth Henry commented, "New Moon is the saddest, and most depressing book of all of them. I’m probably not going to like this movie as much because New Moon wasn’t my favorite book. But it’s really important that you follow along if you want to understand the rest of the books." I’ve read New Moon myself, and have to agree it wasn’t my favorite. Friday, I got my chance to see if the movie would live up to the book’s expectations. I can’t give away too many details, but I personally felt like the book and the movie were more different than alike. This doesn’t mean it’s not a good film. A change in directors (Catherine Hardwicke was replaced by Chris Wietz) may be a big reason for some differences. For those who just follow the movies and not the books, you’re probably thinking I’m crazy for saying I didn’t really like it. Overall, I was entertained until the end, which left me anticipating the next movie. But for those who prefer the story on paper than on screen, many details were changed, left out, and re-arranged. On a scale from one to ten, in my opinion, I rate it an eight. But that’s for you to decide! Go enjoy the second movie, created by Stephanie Meyer, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Out in theaters now.
