Horrible Fiction = Awesome You Tube Videos
.
Written by Chelsea Conner, Reporter
In March of 2009, two young men’s destinies were changed when they spent two hours together on an epic quest for leg waxing supplies. Nick asked Dustin to give him a ride to Target because he had recently started a Facebook group called “If 300 People Join This Group Nick Will Wax His Legs Live on Camera.” A few days after the fateful shopping trip, Dustin and Nick hung out again and created a horrible video which, among other things, featured the “Suite Life of Zack and Cody Theme Song.” Happily, their future videos were much improved. Today Dustin and Nick post their videos on their You Tube channel, Horrible Fiction. They “love to make random videos! Videos from being goofy to singing songs!” Horrible Fiction’s most popular videos are “Harry vs. Draco Wizard Rap (Wrap)” with 6,527 views and “Spose - I’m Awesome (Nerdy Parody)” with 98, 814 views. In these songs both Dustin and Nick sing comical lyrics and use props such as Pokémon cards, curly fries, Pepto-Bismol, and numerous painted glasses without frames that enhance the videos’ hilarity. Horrible Fiction has also posted a series of “Rapid Vlogs” (short for video blogging) in which Nick and Dustin do the funniest things they can think to do in a time period of about ten minutes. The result is a compilation of silly randomness that succeeds in making viewers laugh along with the two comedians. Nick and Dustin were kind enough to answer some questions about themselves for the Arrowhead. Nick, 18 years old, explained that he “slowly started learning how to play the ukulele since the summer”; Dustin, 21 years old, said “I started playing guitar about 10 years ago and have been off and on ever since.” Besides making videos for You Tube, Nick says “I go to college, hang with friends, and accompany Dustin’s passenger seat.” Dustin attends college and spends time with friends as well; he also writes songs, listens to music, and watches countless movies. When asked from where he got his sense of humor, Nick said, “I grew up watching television and later on, Internet. I don’t know when it really ‘started’.” Dustin also replied, “No idea. My dad has always been pretty funny but I think it’s just been from watching funny shows and being surrounded by awesome people.” Nick’s favorite movie is Dan in Real Life, and Dustin said, “I like so many movies, but as of now I guess I would have to say either Kick-Ass or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” Before the season ended, Nick loved the T.V. show LOST, while Dustin’s favorite show is Friends. Some of Nick’s favorite books are Paper Towns by John Green and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Dustin’s favorite book is either Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling or Looking For Alaska by John Green, which is another one of Nick’s favorites as well. Dustin’s favorite comedian is Daniel Tosh (who is Nick’s favorite stand-up comedian), Dane Cook, or Stephen Lynch. Nick’s “overall favorite Internet funny-guy is a gigantic tie among Phillip DeFranco, Toby Turner, Alex Day, and Julian Smith, apart from Dustin.” In regards to why Horrible Fiction creates videos, Nick said, “We make our content because we like it and would think it would be cool to see if other people think the same way.” Dustin replied that “Our hope is that the viewers have fun watching our videos, not only like us, but have fun while they’re watching.” Horrible Fiction’s latest video is “Travie McCoy: Billionaire ft. Bruno Mars (Youtubillionaire Parody).” In this song, Dustin and Nick declare their aspirations for Horrible Fiction’s future on You Tube with catchy lyrics such as: Oh we’ll be on the most subscribed Hosting the next You Tube live yeah Having prerolls is so tight oh I swear You Tube better prepare for us Youtubillionaires. Calling All Gleeks! Season Two of Glee is Here!
.
Written by Candace Chatman, Editor-in-Chief
What has amazing singers, slushies thrown in students’ faces, great taste in music, and entertaining dance moves all in one? There can only be one logical answer and that is television’s hottest new series Glee. Teenagers and viewers of all ages, or “Gleeks,” as some fans call themselves, have been waiting months to see this television series, and it is finally coming back for a second season of singing and dancing. Glee is a show on Fox Network that is all about a high school glee club called New Directions, trying to make their way up the social ladder and one day hopefully see their names in lights. The cast of glee has many diverse and unique characters, and not one is just simply ordinary. Some of the cast members are as follows: Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley), Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron), Noah “Puck” Puckerman (Mark Salling), Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale), Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz), Brittany (Heather Morris), Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera), Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays), and Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig). Season one of Glee was a major hit among viewers and, to span out the season, it was split into two parts with a four month break in between part one and part two. The ending of season one was New Directions’ “Journey to Regionals,” which including songs from the group Journey. New Directions ends up losing to another glee club, Vocal Adrenaline, and do not qualify to continue on to nationals. All the New Directions students are devastated knowing that since they had lost, the principal was going to have to get rid of glee club. Sue Sylvester, the coach of the “cheerios”, finds some kindness in her evil heart to convince the principal to give glee club another year. Which leads up to season two of Glee that several people, including myself, are anxiously awaiting to watch. With all the new adventures, songs, drama, and high school love affairs including Rachel and Finn’s. Plus you cannot possible forget all the new fights between Sue Sylvester and Mr. Schuester! In an interview with one huge Glee fan, Corrine Absher, she tells us some things she’s excited to see in season two and rumors she has heard. We asked Corrine what she wants to see happen with Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson’s relationship. She replied, “I really hope they get together officially and stay together this season. Rachel and Finn are my two favorite characters.” When we asked what rumors she’s heard about season two Corrine replied, “I’ve heard there is a new character this season that challenges Rachel Berry and is her new vocal enemy.” Lastly, we asked what Corrine would like to see in this new season of Glee. “One change this season I’d like to see is more episodes dedicated to famous singers and bands, such as the Madonna and Lady Gaga episodes. I’m very excited for the Britney Spears episode this season!” replied Corrine. Season Two is supposed to have many surprising changes promising to thrill the viewers. According to People magazine, season two is to be filled with new songs and guest stars that will be sure hits! Some song choices include “Empire State of Mind” by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, “Billionaire” by Travis McCoy, and “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. A few guest stars for this season are Javier Bardem, Susan Boyle, John Stamos, and many more! Since Glee first aired on May 19, 2009 and the series officially started on September 19, 2009, the show has received many awards. Awards include: 2010 Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy in 2010, and has won and been nominated for several Emmy Awards. Season one of Glee was, without a doubt, hilarious, romantic, kept viewers on the edge of their seats, and left people want more. Let’s hope season two is just as great and successful as the first season that started it all. So don’t forget Gleeks, tune into Fox September 21 at 8/7c and watch Rachel Berry and the whole gang in another exciting year at William McKinley High School!
